Chapter 8

The fun begins again

.

I fully believed that there would be no further attempt to harm us by our own government. I truly believed that it was a spook thing.

The evacuation team arrived in a couple of old yellow school busses. Just like the one we got here in. The team had been briefed on what they were to do and not to communicate anything except the basics. Only to pick us up and deliver us safely to the new safe house. Over a hundred people would be a trick to do. But we were OK with things if they were reasonable. They were. We were well treated and most of the trip was quiet.

I got another moment to my self. I had been in the Lady mode for most of the last month. I was beginning to like the body. I felt I was losing poor Joe. But, as I made the thought, Both parts of my mind answered the thought with, "Don't worry, everything is OK. And by the way, thanks Joe for being nice. The favor will be returned."

I was glad. I am not used to taking care of anyone but myself. All of this was very new to a nerd. My mind was in ready mode. I was ready for anything. The poor military folk didn't even know that Kat was on top of the yellow bus hiding in plain site. I was not worried. We had a long ride to our new home.

We were growing to like the secret base. It was quiet. It was just crowded and had no resources. So we were being sent to a place with resources. I had looked into the minds of those around us. The military had only a destination and a name. We were a package being delivered to a general by the name of Smith? I read quite a bit and the first Smith I thought of was from one of the old Men's action series. Emperor Smith as he was know in the books was the most secret of project leaders. He ran a group of assassins with martial art skills.

Was this the same thing? Who knew? I only knew not to completely trust anyone when this kind of power was at stake.

Finally after two stops at fast food joints and bathroom stops, the group of over a hundred of us landed in a military base. It looked like old air force with a landing strip and every thing. Looked good to me. I liked quiet towns and not a lot of people around.

When we went through the gate, you could look into the eyes of the guard. I read him. I then knew something was up. He had been alerted to let us in and then shut the base down. After we were in, the base was in total alert mode with no entry or exit with out expressed orders from Smith. We had our piece and quiet.

I really knew things were weird when Mell walked out and greeted me.

"Don't tell me, you been reassigned?"

"YEP, I was glad to get away from the old rock too."

"Something to do with me and you?"

"Seems that I am one of the few people who has had a chance to talk to you as a normal human being and not a doctor looking at a lab rat."

"That means you are now in the loop."

"YEP, and I also know what you are too. They told me I would not be able to hide anything from you anyway. So don't even try."

"This is Smith huh?"

"Yep, was him."

"OK Mell, who is this guy?"

"Super secret spy stuff. They didn't tell me a lot. Only that from now on, to be your shadow and if I could, be your friend."

"I like honest. That is the first honesty I have had sense all this started. OK Mell, You got a friend."

"Pheww, I am glad. I didn't want to have claw marks down my back."

"Me, a back scratcher? Only when needed, Only when needed......."

Poor Mell, My communication with him bonded him to me in the military's eyes just like glue. They couldn't have a lose end. I could see this right off the bat.

Time to get to work. I went into seek mode. That meant that if anyone thought about Me or Tigerlady, I would lock on them and read their thoughts. I was not sure if the files got out of the bunker. But if they did not, then I had surprise on my side. Seems that luck was with me. I locked onto Smith almost immediately.

He just didn't have any information on just what we could do. HE knew we were dangerous. He knew that lots of attention was paid to us while in the bunker know as the "Village". So he knew we were hot. But all the information was gone. They had Waldo and Mary. They had the director of the project, George. But, I had made him unable to talk. (Going into the speech centers of the brain and disconnecting them was very easy.) He would have to write everything down. That would give me time.

I left Waldo and Mary alone. They would tell everything they knew. Which I didn't mind.

So Smith wanted to talk to me. I opened the door to the room they had me in and just went out in the hall. The door had been locked. I immediately sensed the camera and the person watching it. I froze him in place and told him that it was OK. I was just going to see Smith and no alarms were necessary. Then I slowly let him go. He reached for the alarm and I stopped him again.

You really want a headache don't you?

He calmed down and just sat. He knew I could do that to him. I told him to just be calm and wait till I got to Smith's door. Then call him. And tell him anything he wanted.

I was at the door. The phone rang. The door unlocked and I walked in. Perfect timing.

"You like dramatics don't you?"

"Makes life interesting. By the way, do you want to waste time and play with me or do you want to know everything?"

"I hate wasting time especially sense you guys are hot right now."

"OK, I am going to link with you. This will not take long."

"Link?"

I then linked to him. He could talk back and answer questions and ask.

"I was told you guys were powerful, but I really didn't believe the hokas pokas stuff."

"You can believe it." I read him like a book. He was to get everything he could about Tiger lady and Joe. Any one else who could be used in a covert operation was to be recruited.

"Smith, first, We are now a group. We bonded. We learned to use all of our separate abilities as one. I singlely am the strongest and most powerful. But as a group, we are unstoppable. Talk to Mary and Waldo. "

"We did and we almost didn't believe them. They want to show us what you can do. "

I transformed back into Joe right in front of the poor guy.

"You are Joe?"

"Glad to meet you. Get a good look. I may not stay like this long."

"There are stories that you could move objects 20 miles away. And that you could unleash death in large groups."

Oh yes, Kat. He is my animal alter ego. Pure energy in Kat form. An extinct 600 LB Siberian tiger. With instant communications with me in any form. And he is completely indestructible and unstoppable. Want to meet him?"

"Only if you promise not to kill me or make me bleed."

I transformed back into the Tigerlady.

Kat just appeared and walked up to Smith. Smith slowly took his hand and petted Kat.

"Am I right in believing that the Kat is only present when you are female?"

"No. I can do this in any form. Go ahead and rub his ears. He likes that."

"I just don't want to lose my hands."

"Don't worry about that. Just don't piss any of us off."

"Shit, the inmates are running the asylum."

"Remember, I can read your thoughts."

"Opps, I keep forgetting. No harm intended."

I didn't sense any. All OK..... I started to transmit to Bill everything going on. Smith was the head of another secret organization trying to fight a very strong group of terrorist who were ghosts. They moved in and out of whole communities and could not be stopped. His job is to find a way to fight them. We showed up in the Silo with Mell. So, Smith wanted to see if we could be used to fight the terrorist know as "THE ORDER". No information was available on them as they seemed to clean their tracks very well. No one ever saw anything. Even people directly affected by the group didn't remember anything. Brainwashing at its best. We were possibly the only solution. I knew what Smith wanted and how he worked. Seems that that old series of books were more than fiction. There were at one time, assassins working for him. He worked only for himself. Only the president could send him on missions. Only the president could fire him. The firing was death. This old guy loved his country and was willing to die for it. We would help him.

I left Smith and called the group in for a conference.

The long and short of the meeting was, We would work for Smith. I had scanned him from birth to now and realized his intentions were of the most pure loyalty to his country. I saw the honor and duty and decided I could work for him. The group looked at my thoughts and agreed. We now had a home and purpose. We would also put an end to some of the more evil BLACK BAG ops.
