Chapter 35 ..........
We finally went to bed. We talked for a couple of hours, trying to come up
with something, when exhaustion finally set in and we both fell asleep.
The next morning, I had spent more then the required twelve hours as a
mermaid, and had no trouble changing back into human form. Sam was pretty
quiet, she was still trying to think of some way to hide me from her parents.
I tried to pick out my own clothes, but after seeing the skirt and blouse I
had picked out, Sam just made a face, went into the closet and came out with
a dress on a hanger. It was a pale pink sleeveless dress, with a short
little jacket that went over it. As with many of Sam's clothes, it was cut
so that it fitted my body closely and was just as short as the dress I had
worn the previous Friday. I didn't say anything, but I was getting a little
tired of the short skirts, even though I was actually getting kind of used to
being looked at by men.
I was also beginning to get the hang of some of the tasks that Margie did at
work. I was able to do some things on my own and I was starting to remember
names and put them with the right face. I was even beginning to feel
comfortable enough so that sometimes I joined Margie in the playful banter
she engaged in with the guys in the office. I watched her carefully, trying
to pick up some of her ability to joke around and go right up to the edge of
flirting with the guys, while still not going too far. A little flattery, a
little joking, and sometimes just the right slightly off-color remark would
work wonders with the guys. She was able to almost boss them around, and
they didn't even realize it. Watching her act from the female side of the
fence was quite interesting. I could even see a few of the techniques that
Sam used to use on me to get her way and make it seem like it was my idea.
I realized women may be the weaker sex physically, but when it came to
manipulating the other gender, men weren't even in the same league.
Sitting around at home, that evening, I was somewhat bored, as usual. Being
forced to do little more than work during the day and then just sit around at
night was going to get old, really fast.
We were still trying to come up with some way to keep Sam's parents from
finding out that their son-in-law, was now their mermaid-in-law. I was
watching television, but Sam seemed lost in thought and a million miles away.
The doorbell rang and startled me. I was sitting on the couch, wearing just
a t-shirt with nothing covering my tail. I quickly turned back into a woman,
which took a goodly amount of will power and concentrating to maintain, and I
was scrambling to find something to cover my naked lower half, when Sam
peeked through the curtains and said, "Relax, it's Bob and Linda."
Sam looked and saw that I had managed to pull a cover over my legs and then
she opened the door and let them in.
"Hi, guys." I said as they came in and sat down. Both of them were looking
at my feet sticking out from under the cover. I reminded them of how I had
to spend half of each day as a mermaid and then, still keeping my legs
covered, changed back to a mermaid. Both Bob and Linda watched my
transformation, and then both of them, in unison, gave that little shake of
their heads that said they still didn't quite believe what they were seeing.
They explained they were just driving by and just stopped in to see how I was
doing on the job. We made a little small talk and had a discussion about how
difficult it was getting to be to keep track of the time. "Can't have an
accident at work and wind up sitting at my desk as a mermaid." I joked. "I
don't think the laws concerning disabled persons requires them to cater to
the needs of mermaids."
That got a laugh, except from Samantha. She then said she wanted a cup of
coffee and asked if anyone else did. She went into the kitchen after
refusing an offer of help from Linda. After she left the room, Bob and Linda
wanted to know what was wrong because Sam seemed to be upset about something.
I didn't know if I should tell them about Sam's father, so I said it wasn't
anything big and changed the subject.
They wanted to know how I liked my new job and I told them about it, and
about how I was starting to feel like I was fitting in with all the other
secretaries. Bob just shook his head, and said he couldn't even begin to
understand how I was getting used to my new situation so soon. I told him it
wasn't all good news; about how I was getting awfully tired of just sitting
around every evening and wished I could have some physical activity even if
it was swimming. I told them of how I had been wishing I had some place
private to swim, and about how I had watched a nature show on television a
week or so before and found myself really wanting to be able to swim freely
in those beautiful tropic waters. "Jeez....., I wish we had a pool in the
basement that I could use." I said, half to myself. "That is, if we had a
basement." They both chuckled at that.
Linda then said, "I'm going to see if Sam wants any help. I want to find out
what's bothering her."
She went into the kitchen leaving Bob and I alone. While she was gone, Bob
and I talked about the office and about some of the people there. I
mentioned how lunchtime was quite enjoyable, eating with the other
secretaries. And, I told him about how often the subject of sex came up
there. He was listening to me, but I noticed he kept glancing at my tail.
It was getting to be a little humorous to watch how men always tried to look
at women without being obvious about it, and how women always seemed to be
aware of it anyway. Trying not to look as though I knew that he was
watching, I let the cover over my tail slide off a little to give him a
glimpse of some of it. I wasn't really sure of why I did it. It surely
couldn't have been that it gave me a just a little bit of a tingly feeling to
have a guy trying to sneak a look at me, and all the while I was really in
control of how much he saw.
Sam and Linda came back in only a few minutes, carrying the coffee and some
cups out on a tray. While Linda was pouring the coffee, she said, "Bob! Sam
told me that her father had a heart attack."
Bob seemed truly shocked and for a awhile we discussed what had happened and
how we were trying to figure out some way to keep her parents from finding
out about my transformation without them getting too suspicious. I told them
of my plan to stay with them, and they offered to take me for as long as
needed. Sam still didn't think that was a good idea, but said that maybe it
would come to that if we couldn't think of something else.
We talked about that and about how Sam's parents wanted to move out here and
what kind of problems it would cause if I didn't get changed back soon. We
still couldn't figure anything out anything definite and finally Bob said
they should really be going as we all had to get up early in the morning.
On their way out, Linda joked, "You should go talk to that Kathy and have her
whip up a duplicate of the old Terry." They all smiled, but I just looked at
her like she was crazy. "You know. " She went on, "One that you could keep
in the closet and bring him out and wind him up as you need him. Hell, until
you get changed back, Terri, Sam just might be able to find some other uses
for him." All three of them chuckled at that one, but I blushed with
embarrassment.
Sam surprised me by joining in and joking, "Yeah, Terri. Maybe we could both
find some way to use him."
I blushed even more, and Bob looked at Sam and Linda and just shook his head.
They both laughed loudly and in spite of my embarrassment, I was glad to see
Sam feeling a little better.
After they left and later that night, as we were laying in bed, I asked Sam
if she really missed the old, male Terry that much.
"A little." She said. "But, I was just joking, Terri, don't worry about it.
I know you can't help what happened to you, so don't get upset or anything."
She turned on her side towards me and kissed me, then put her hand on mine.
"When you finally get changed back, we'll make up for lost time." She
paused. "Until then, honey, don't worry, it's not all that bad now, is it?"
She gently stroked my long silvery-blond hair.
"I guess not." I answered. "I just wish I could figure out what to do when
your parents get here. Maybe you should just dump me off at the ocean each
night on the way home, and pick me up, with a change of clothes for me, on
the way to work in every morning. At least that way, I could get a little
exercise and stay out of their way at the same time."
She laughed. "Oh, knock it off, Terri. We'll think of something." She
turned out the light and lay back down. I thought she was going to sleep,
when she said quietly, "You never know, though, you might like having a wind
up man in the closet. He really might come in handy for some things."
I swatted her on the butt. "I'd like to see you explain to your parents why
you keep your husband in the closet. I know your father doesn't think much
of me, but even he might think that's going a bit too far."
Sam giggled a little and then was quiet. I went to sleep without much
trouble, but I woke up a couple of times during the night, when Sam seemed
restless. I thought she was asleep, but I wasn't sure.
The next morning, Sam seemed very tired and a little groggy. She said she
hadn't slept well, and had lain awake thinking. She told me she was not only
worried about her fathers' health, but was still concerned about what to do
when they arrived to visit.
We were getting ready for work and I had just finished dressing. Sam had
picked out a plum colored suit for me to wear. As usual the skirt was a
couple of inches above my knees and both the jacket and skirt were a little
tighter than I would have liked, but it all looked good in the mirror. It
seemed odd to wear a jacket with no shirt underneath, only a bra. Sam said I
could wear what she called a camisole, if I wanted, but they kept the office
warm enough that I didn't want to.
I was checking my hair in the mirror over the dresser and could see Sam in
the closet. She had opened a box that contained some my old clothes and was
holding up a pair of my old jockey shorts and was looking at them.
"Looking for somebody to fill those?" I asked, poking my head in the closet.
"Oh....., um....., just thinking." She said.
"Maybe you should put some of my stuff back in the dressers." I said. "Your
parents might wonder if they don't see any of my clothes around anywhere."
"What.....? Oh...., yeah! That's just what I was thinking." She said,
sounding like she wasn't really listening to me.
On the way to work, Sam didn't say much. She wanted me to drive and spent a
lot of time looking in a little mirror, checking her makeup or something.
The day was a busy one and I didn't get a chance to see Sam at all.
One odd thing happened. Linda called me, a little after nine in the morning
and wanted to know if she could stop by and get the key to our house. She
said she needed to get in our garage, and that she had a surprise and didn't
want to tell me what it was until I saw it. I wondered what she was up to,
but didn't have too much time to talk, so I told her to go ahead. It was
only a few minutes later that the reception desk called and said she was
there. I went down to give her the key, and with a smile she told me that
she had called from her car, only a few miles away. She wouldn't tell me
what she was up to, and I had to get back to work. I was so busy, that I
forgot about it within an hour.
After lunch, I had a little time to talk to Bob in his office, and he wanted
to know if we had figured out what to do about Sam's parents. I was telling
that we hadn't thought of anything yet when I remembered about Linda coming
to get the key, and asked him if he knew what she was up to. He said he
didn't know, but he had a sly little smile that told me he did. He wouldn't
admit anything, though, and as we were talking about it, Margie stuck her
head into Bob's office and said that Sam was on the phone and wanted to talk
to me.
Bob had her transfer the call into his office and I picked up Bob's phone.
Samantha wanted to know if I could get a ride home with Bob. She said she
had to meet with somebody late that afternoon, and she needed the car. Bob
said it was fine with him, and I told Sam to go ahead.
At first I figured that it might have something to do with Linda and her
surprise, but Bob swore that he didn't know anything, and that she probably
had a meeting with some customer. He said her boss was well known for
scheduling things like that late in the day.
Near the end of the day, Sam came by and said she was leaving for her
appointment and that she would see me later. I asked if she wanted me to
wait and make some dinner when she came home, and she said that was fine. I
had the feeling that her mind was on something else and that she wasn't
paying too much attention. I was curious and a little bit worried. I
wondered what was up with both Linda and Sam.
When it was time to leave, I went into Bob's office and told him I was ready
to leave whenever he was. He said he'd be right out and as I left his office
he picked up the phone and made a call. I hadn't shut the door all the way,
and I could hear him ask whoever he had called, "All set? We're ready to
leave now."
On the way home, I kept asking Bob what was going on, but he just kept
telling me that he didn't know anything. As we pulled in the driveway, I saw
Linda's minivan in front of the house.
"All right, Bob." I said. "What are you two up to?"
"Let's go inside." Bob replied. "Linda's got a little surprise for you."
He paused and then said, "I hope you like it. I tried to talk Linda out of
it, but you know how she always gets whatever she wants."
"As we walked up to the front door, he also said, "I think you'll like it,
but I'm not too sure if Sam's going to be all that happy about it." That
kind of worried me.
Linda had seen us drive up and had the door open. "All right!" I said.
"Now what have you done?"
Linda just motioned for me to follow her and after I put my purse on the
table, I followed her through the kitchen and to the door into the garage.
She opened the door, and stepped aside so that I could go through.
I couldn't believe it, inside the garage, she had, somehow, managed to have
somebody set up a swimming pool. It was one of those round ones that you
would normally put into your back yard. They had moved all of the boxes and
stuff to the back of the garage, and put as large a pool as they could fit.
It was about twenty feet in diameter and filled up most of both stalls in the
garage. Off to one side and attached with hoses was what looked like a pump
and filter. The sides of the pool were high enough that you could put water,
four feet deep into the pool. There was a ladder and platform along the edge
of the pool near the back of the garage. Almost in shock, I walked over to
the edge and looked in. There were two garden hoses, one from the back yard
faucet and one from the front yard, which was running under the almost closed
garage door. The one from the back yard came in through the door out to the
back. Both were running and there was about two or two and a half feet of
water in the pool.
"Like it?" Linda asked, coming over and putting her arm around my shoulders.
"You talked about having some place to swim and exercise. Well, now you've
got one. A private one, too."
I shook my head, still quite surprised. "Jeez..., Linda...., Bob..., I don't
know what to say." I looked at them and they were both grinning.
"I tried to tell her we shouldn't do it." Bob said. "You don't think Sam's
going to be too upset, do you?"
"I don't know." I said. "But..., we can't afford this. How much did this
thing cost anyway."
"Don't worry about it." Linda said, holding my hand. "It's our gift. Call
it a housewarming gift."
"I'm not sure how Sam's going to take this." I said. "Did you guys ask her
about this? Is that why she left early today?"
They assured me that Samantha knew nothing about it and that they didn't know
where she had gone. Linda said she got the idea just the previous evening
while we were talking and that she had talked Bob into it that night. "You
have no idea what I had to do to get him to along with this." Linda said.
"What do you mean by that?" I looked at Linda and then Bob. Bob got a
little red in the face and just looked into the pool, grinning.
"Let's just say that Bob wasn't going to get any sleep until I 'talked' him
into it." Linda said. She leaned over and whispered in my ear, "I'll tell
you what I had to do later. It was exhausting, deviate and degenerate, but
fun."
"No need to go into details, Linda." Bob said, trying to look stern. "It's
nothing that Terri would be interested in."
"Oh, yeah?" I said, glancing at Linda, who was looking a little embarrassed,
herself. "I'm not sure I want to hear all the details."
"It'll probably take until later tonight for it to fill." Linda said,
changing the subject. "The filter is running and all the instructions are in
the packet over on the platform."
"I don't know what to say, guys." I was touched. "I just hope Sam isn't too
upset about it. Maybe you should have cleared it with her."
"It won't be forever." Bob said. "Just until you get that spell removed.
Then you can move it to the backyard if you want."
"The place where I bought it must have thought I was crazy." Linda said. "I
didn't tell them it was going in a garage until they delivered it. I
insisted they deliver and set it up right away, and you should have seen the
look on the guys' face when I showed him where I wanted it. He insisted on
calling back to the office to see if he should really set it up in here. He
kept talking about building permits and zoning regulations. I really had to
talk to convince them that I would take care of everything."
I wanted them to wait and see Sam's reaction to the pool when she got home,
but Bob wanted to leave. He said he had some work to get done, and that I
probably wanted to try it out in private anyway.
Linda said she would leave too, but wanted to talk to me for a few minutes.
I thanked Bob again, and he left.
"What did you want?" I asked Linda after he was gone.
"Oh..., I really just wanted to see my favorite mermaid in the pool." She
said with a smile.
"Linda, now you know we shouldn't be doing that kind of stuff." I replied,
feeling nervous. "What if Sam comes home?"
"Oh, relax Terri." She said, taking my hand. "I just want to watch, you
know I wouldn't force you into anything." She walked over and looked in the
pool. "I think Bob really wanted to stay and watch, too. He's more than a
little embarrassed by it, but he gets so turned on whenever he sees that tail
of yours that it makes him uncomfortable." She turned and looked at me.
"Remember that first night, when you changed? Bob was almost insatiable that
night. Afterward he told me he was kind of ashamed about it because it was
you he was thinking of most of the time, instead of me." She climbed up the
ladder and sat on the platform. "I told him I didn't mind...., and I didn't,
really." She laughed. "Actually, I was thinking of you most of that night,
too."
"Well, it's good to know that my problem has been good for somebody." I
said, trying to sound insulted. Then I thought for a moment and said, "I
don't think I'll ever be comfortable with the idea of another man thinking of
me as a sex object."
"But your not a man anymore, Terri, so get used to it." Linda came down and
took my hand again. "I find it kind of exciting when I know a man wants me.
It makes me feel good, to know that I'm desirable." In a softer voice she
said, "I like it when a woman wants me, too." She leaned over and kissed me.
"C'mon, Linda. Don't do that." I said. The problem was, even though I had
said I didn't want to be desired by a man, the thought of it just wasn't as
abhorrent as it used to be. I was still sure I wasn't going to go out
chasing men, but the past couple of days, the thought just didn't seem as
repugnant as it had at first.
Working with Margie and all the other secretaries had proved to me that at
least while I was Sam's twin sister, my feelings towards women had changed; I
no longer evaluated their sexuality before beginning to view them as people.
I was also pretty sure that my feelings towards men hadn't changed, at least
as much, and I was certain that I didn't want them to. Maybe Sam wasn't
comfortable fooling around when I looked just like her, but at least she
still desired me the other half of the day, even if we had to do things a
little differently than before.
"Aren't you going to try out the pool?" Linda asked. "I went to a lot of
trouble to get this set up, you know. I think I deserve at least a little
glimpse of my favorite mermaid before I have to go."
"Okay, okay....., I'll go wash up and change clothes....., er....., take my
clothes off, I mean." I was getting a little more nervous as to how Sam
would react to having a swimming pool in the garage. "Shouldn't we wait
until it's all the way full?"
"It's fine now." Linda said, looking into the pool. "There must be close to
three feet of water in there, you can try it out in that much, can't you?"
"Okay, c'mon in the house while I wash up."
Linda followed me into the bedroom and I kicked off my shoes and took off my
jacket. I unzipped my skirt and stepped out of it. I went into the
bathroom, pushing the door most of the way closed for a little privacy,
pulled down my pantyhose and sat on the toilet. As I was peeing, I peeled
them off the rest of the way and reached around behind me to undo my bra. I
sat scratching under my breasts as I finished on the toilet. I had found
that underwire bras were great for shape and support, but they got pretty
uncomfortable towards the end of the day.
I quickly washed my makeup off and pulled on a bathrobe and slippers.
Looking into the mirror as I washed, I noticed that I had forgotten to take
out my earrings, and I removed them, still surprised that I had become so
used to wearing them, I could forget I had them on. I went into the bedroom,
where Linda was sitting on the bed leafing through a magazine, and started
rummaging through the drawers of Sam's dresser.
